Any readers familiar with ICanHazCheezburger and the often-hilarious cat/lolrus/goggie/etc. images with captions will enjoy the Year of Catstronomy theme that is developing there.

My friend Daniel Fischer at Cosmos4U alerted everybody in Twitter about it and you can see a list of more entries to the cat-astronomy continuum at Paolo Amoroso’s page. I even made one of my own.

If you’re into cats and astronomy AND the International Year of Astronomy, this is a can’t miss!  It combines the cutest cats with a satisfying thing to do — stargazing.  And, if you are in the habit of stargazing WITH a cat… well, as my friend Lenny Abbey used to point out — there’s nothin like a cat to keep your hands warm when you’re out stargazing.

So, participate in LoLCatStronomy — just go to ICanHazCheesburger, select a pic and create your own Year of Catstronomy caption delight!

You Create the Caption

I like to read The Daily Galaxy, a newsblog about science, space exploration, and technology. It’s always got a refreshing look at the news of the day, science-wise. And, I also like to look at ICanHazCheezburger.com, a place where you can look at funny captioned pictures of cats and other animals, as well as humans doing funny things that need captioning. Check it out, but beware of time-sink issues!

So, getting back to Daily Galaxy, it was fun to see an entry there inviting us to create cute captions for a picture of a laser beam shooting out from one of the telescopes on at the Very Large Telescope Array in Chile. It looks like they were doing a laser-guide star observation or possibly just checking out their LGS system. Anyway, check it out and write your own caption! Be creative and have fun!
