Dispatches from the Cosmos: Day 3

Paper Presentation Day

So, today I’m doing a poster presentation at the AAS about our vodcast project — Space Weather FX. This means that I printed out my whole paper on a big poster, put it up on a board, and then stand there and talk to people about it.  It’s very informal and doing a poster paper gets you the chance to talk to people at length about your work. It makes for a very long day, but it’s worth it.

Our project is funded by NASA and NSF, so of course I’ve made sure that their folks know what we’re doing with the money.  And, a number of professors and other researchers stopped by to see what we’re doing. I had a fascinating conversation with a fellow who thinks that high school students could be used to help take ionospheric data — a concept I’ll check out with my team members when I get back home.

The astronomy news continues — and I’ll be posting a wrap-up later on, so stay tuned!
