A Picture Postcard of Infinity

The Starry Night

Some people look at a picture like this one taken as part of a site study for the European Southern Observatory’s Extremely large Telescope and see the infinite coolness of space. Others look at it and wonder if there are others out there looking back at us and wondering about life on other worlds. Still others see a starry sky and palpitate over what they can discover when they aim their telescopes at it. What thoughts does it inspire in you?

  1. I wonder how they got the mountains so well exposed without turning the stars into streaky arcs… 😉

  2. I don’t have any such pretension about which program is better and I don’t encouraging “us vs. them” wars about which one is better. In my work I use whatever it takes to get the job done well.

Unfortunately, they don’t say on the website what they used to get the image looking the way it is.
